Akure City Stadium will host yet another crunch tie today when Katsina United trade tackles with Sunshine Stars in one of the NPFL matchday 8 fixtures.
Katsina United arrived at Akure Sunday afternoon and have since settled down ahead of the game
‘The Changi Boys’, who are still in celebration mood after defeating Bendel Insurance 2 – 1 in a hard-fought contest that saw them move to second on the league table, will face another litmus test when they clash against the home team who have been in superlative form in Akure.
The victory over Insurance will serve as the necessary tonic to spur Katsina United to a master-class outing on the road
Sunshine Stars suffered a narrow loss to Niger Tornadoes in their last match and former Nasarawa United Coach, Kabiru Dogo will do everything to ensure his boys avoid a back-to-back defeat
They have won all their home games thus far this season, apart from the draw against Rivers United and will go to this game with the motivation and confidence from their good home run of form.
A promising encounter, which is not only going to be about these two traditional NPFL teams but a battle between two young and promising Nigerian coaches who hailed from the same state, Kwara – Abdullahi Biffo and Kabiru Dogo.
Katsina United will rely once again on Lukman Muhammed, Martins Usule and winger Tasiu Lawal who is the team’s leading scorer with three goals, to spring them to a fantastic outing in Akure
While Sunshine Stars will rely on CHAN Eagles all action midfielder Dayo Ojo and former Heartland star Fuad Ekelojuoti to do the damage against ‘The Changi Boys’
Super Eagles goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa who shone and helped Katsina United to their third consecutive home win against Bendel Insurance will not be in action owing to a family issues that needed his attention.
He has been excused by the team to go home and attend to the issue, thus he is expected to be back for the next game.
Coach Biffo will also miss the service of their Niger export Kassaly Daouda. The tall goalkeeper is still recovering from a twisted ankle during the match against Niger Tornadoes.
Destiny Ashadi will also be missed by ‘The Changi Boys’ as he is still recuperating from a groin injury sustained in the team’s first match of the season against Wikki Tourists.
Sunshine Stars will also not be with their star midfielder Omaka who was red carded in their last match at Niger Tornadoes
Katsina United in form winger Tasiu Lawal told www.fckatsinaunited.com that he is familiar with the Akure stadium and hopes to score again.
“I am used to the atmosphere of that stadium. I scored here last season but we lost narrowly by 2 – 1.
“I want to score this time around and help my team get a result.”
Both teams have met three times in the NPFL. Katsina United lost the first-ever meeting against Sunshine Stars 2 – 0 in Akure and the reversed fixture of that tie at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina also ended 2 – 0 in favour of the hosts during the 2017/2018 NPFL season.
In the following season, the Akure outfit maintained their superiority with a 2 – 1 victory over Katsina United at home, while the reversed fixture was canceled due to indefinite suspension of the league by the LMC.
