‘The Changi Boys’ Katsina United’s confidence is at an all-time high for today’s NPFL Week 31 clash at title chasers MFM FC after they stopped local rivals Kano Pillars at home in midweek.
‘The Olukoya Boys’, who are one of the front-runners this season, lost 2 – 0 at champions Enugu Rangers in their last match and will now wish to secure all three points when they welcome Katsina United to the Agege Stadium in Lagos.
Katsina United famous victory over Pillars on Wednesday shot them to 11th position on the league table with 41 points from 30 games.
However, MFM FC still maintain second place on the table despite the loss in Enugu. They have 49 points from 30 games.
The reverse fixture between the two teams was played in March, when Katsina United ran away with a 2 – 1 victory through a late goal by Martins Usule after Chinedu Udechukwu saw his opener cancelled out by Augustin Oguye.
Udechukwu, the leading scorer for the Katsina outfit with six goals, and his strike partner Musa ‘Ronaldo’ Suleman did not make the squad to Lagos due to injury.
Coach Baldwin Bazuaye, who spoke to www.fckatsinaunited.com on the injury update of the strikers, said: “It’s a pity that both of them didn’t make the squad due to injury, but we have capable replacements.
“If you could still recollect Chinedu was the one who opened the scoring for us in our 2 – 1 victory when MFM visited Katsina in the first round.”
The coach added, “I have a very good team who can challenge any team in the league, so MFM should expect a tough game.
“We have not come all the way from Katsina for sight-seeing in Lagos, we have come to give a very good account of ourselves and record a positive result here in Lagos.”
Katsina United and MFM FC have thus far clashed twice in competitive games.
The first time both teams clashed was in the second round of last season’s FA Cup, now renamed AITEO Cup, where Suleman ‘Dan Sule’ Ibrahim goal gave ‘The Chanji Boys’ the victory to advance to the next round of the cup competition.
The second time they clashed was in the first round of the on-going NPFL season and Katsina United won 2-1.
Chinedu Udechukwu and Martins Usule were on the score sheet for Katsina United, while Augustin Oguye hit target for the church team.
Katsina United, who have not been impressive on the road, will have to be on top of their game if they want to end their poor run of form away from home today.
‘The Chanji Boys’ have just managed two points out of possible 55 away points.
Their last away game against Shooting made it eight away games without a goal.
On the other hand, MFM home record has been very impressive. They have dropped just two points at home thus far this season – . a goalless draw with Akwa United in Week 20 and that was also the first time they failed to score at home.
