Katsina United will once again face another acid test in their quest to end a poor run of form away from home when they travel to Uyo to slug it out against the on-form Akwa United in an NPFL Week 25 fixture at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
‘The Chanji Boys’ will be looking forward to build on the 3-0 thumping of El Kanemi Warriors at home last weekend when they visit Akwa United, who are one of the league title contenders.
The Uyo outfit defeated visiting Wikki Tourists 2-0 on Wednesday in a rescheduled Week 22 with goals from Musa Newman and Christian Pyagbara.
The reverse of this encounter was played in February and it ended 1-1 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
Katsina United will once again miss the service of the club’s highest goal scorer Chinedu Udechukwu, who picked up an ankle injury against Nasarawa United fortnight ago.
Also, Musa ‘Ronaldo’ Suleiman, who scored the fastest goal in the NPFL Week 24, will not be involved in this match due to a groin injury.
Akwa United will bank on the excellent form of the Super Eagles dependable attacking midfielder Alhassan Ibrahim, who opened scoring for ‘The Promise keepers’ in the first encounter, to put the Katsina outfit to the sword and maintain their good home record.
While Katsina United will depend on their mercurial midfielder Ashadi Destiny to earn them a result at ‘The Nest of Champions’ and end 10 away games without a point.
“We just want to go to Akwa and enjoy ourselves. We’ll put in our best to ensure we pick a positive result in Uyo,” said coach Baldwin Bazuaye.
“They came to Katsina and picked a point, so we are going there to make sure that we get positive result as well.”
Akwa United have a very credible home run of form as they are yet to taste defeat at home since the beginning of this season – they have played 12, drawn 3 and won 9.
Katsina United are not good travellers having played 12 away games, drawn 2 and lost 10.
