Katsina United recorded their biggest win of the NPFL season courtesy of Musa Suleman’s brace and Obinna Eleje’s late goal against El Kanemi Warriors today at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
Katsina United remain 13th on the league table with 32 points from 24 games, while El Kanemi Warriors have dropped to fifth with 37 points.
‘The Changi Boys’ next match will be against Akwa United at the Nest of Champions in Uyo.
Musa ‘Ronaldo’ Suleman, who was given a start, got the fastest goal of the NPFL matchday 24 fixture after he gave the hosts the lead on 58 seconds, scoring with his first touch on the ball.
The ‘Chanji Boys’ dominated the proceedings from the beginning of the game as El Kanemi were completely outplayed.
The visitors could not get any shot on target throughout the first 45 minutes as they were caged to their own half.
Ashadi Destiny who orchestrated the midfield of the hosts was a delight to watch as he firmly controlled the pace of the game with his dazzling skills in the middle of the park.
The combination of Martins Usele and Musa Suleman in the attack troubled the opposing defence led by Lucky Erimuya.
What could have been the second goal for Katsina United was parried to safety by the goalkeeper of El Kanemi Warriors Usman Muhammed off a powerful header by Martins Usele in the 37th minute.
Katsina United went into the break a goal up.
On resumption, it took Musa ‘Ronaldo’ just three minutes to complete his brace and double Katsina United advantage after he was released by Stephen Adah.
Katsina striker Usele found the back of the net on 55th minutes but it was chalked off for offside.
Coach Baldwin Bazuaye made his first substitute on the hour when Adah Stephen, who assisted for the second goal, made way for Tasiu Lawal.
The second change by the home team was in the 68th minute, when Musa ‘Ronaldo’ made way for Obinna Eleje.
The tactical substitution made by Bazuaye paid off in the 80th minute, when substitute Tasiu Lawal’s clever cross into the box was brilliantly converted by another substitute Obina Eleje to put the hosts three goals up.
Eleje and Frank Kappe of Katsina United and Chibuzor Okonkwo and Yahuza Bala of El Kanemi Warriors were booked.
