Katsina United experienced defender Ado Ali has predicted an upset against his former team Kano Pillars in Sunday’s much-anticipated derby.
Pillars and Katsina United will rekindle an age-long rivalry inside a packed Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Sunday afternoon and Ado Ali has told the home fans to brace themselves for a shock from their next-door neigbours.
“I see us getting the victory in Kano,” began the no-nonsense central defender, who has featured for several top clubs including Sunshine Stars, El Kanemi Warriors and Mighty Jets.
“The spirit in camp is very high. The boys are determined and ready to beat Pillars.
“The fact that we won our last match has boosted our morale. We’re going to out run them because we have a younger team who are hungry to make name for themselves.”
This derby could be likened to that between Shooting Stars and Sunshine Stars or Rangers against Enyimba.
Kano and Katsina are two of the most prominent Emirates of Northern Nigeria and they are only two hours drive by road from each other.
The former Kano Pillars central defender also revealed he will live to remember the day he was handed keys to a brand-new car by the Kano State Governor as reward for Pillars winning the Nigeria premier league.
“I enjoyed my time with Pillars because I became league champion during my time with them,” he proudly recounted.
“There were a lot of memorable days at Pillars for me, but the day I’ll always live to remember was the day I shook hands with the state governor and I was handed a car key as a gift. I’ll never forget that day.”
